The Deborah Wace Curriculum Vitae details Deborah’s rich and inspiring 30-year career as a Tasmanian botanical artist, fabric designer, professional printmaker, singer and environmental advocate.
Based in Hobart, her artistry is inspired by creating designs that amplify the beauty of Tasmania’s wild and often endangered plants. Her exclusive designs are influenced by the European botanical collections of early French expeditions to Tasmania.
2024 – Invited to give a 40-minute interactive presentation at the FCEM/WCEI -Women Chief of Enterprise International 71st WORLD CONGRESS, Sydney: ‘Connecting the Dots: Women leading globally’.
2023 – Delivered a printmaking demonstration including audio-visuals & my original songs, to 25 leaders & change makers at the Takayna Impact Safari (run by Small Giants Academy in partnership with Bob Brown Foundation & Patagonia).
2022 – Registered Deborah WACE Pty Ltd: Art, fabric design & professional printmaking company creating luxurious and visually rich repeat pattern fabrics, fashion accessories, soft furnishings, wallpaper, bespoke art services & limited-edition art.
2022 – Launched ‘The Sartorial Naturalist’ botanical art collection and film inspired by the wild and often raw Tasmanian environment, featuring Recherche Bay Seaweed, Giant Kelp Forests, Golden Fagus Leaves,
Lomatia tasmanica, Large Tongue Orchids, Blue Seed Pods, Bearded Lichens & Buttongrass Flora.
2022 – Featured on ABC TV Gardening Australia ‘Down my Garden Path’ a 7.5min segment on my arts practice & the genesis of my designs.
2019 – Deborah WACE Hobart design studio launched by Peter Cundall.
2017 – Awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study botanical specimens located in Herbarium collections in Paris, Florence and Kew from the D’Entrecasteaux expeditions to Tasmania in 1792-1793, and the Baudin expedition from 1800-1803. Original, contemporary cultural motifs born from this experience are woven into my art & designs.
2003 – Involved in the successful community campaign to protect the historic and wild Recherche Bay in far south Tasmania – where the first French expeditions set their base. I actively campaign for the conservation and appreciation of wild botanical sites & use my artwork and song-writing skills to highlight conservation values.
